Every guy’s trip to Medellin needs a daytime activity that everyone is excited about. An activity where culture, food, booze, and views take center stage. Medellin’s answer to this is the Guatape Boat Party.
Guatape is a town located 90 minutes away from the city full of culture and excitement. A town that features everything from a monolith to climb to a manmade lake.
To give you a brief history lesson on Guatape, up until the 1970s, Guatape was like any traditional town. Spanish colonial-like architecture, a church, and a square. In 1978, El Peñol (the adjacent town) was flooded to build a hydroelectric dam. This dam is responsible for 30% of the country’s energy.
This is important to modern-day Guatape because tourists now flock by the hundreds to reap the benefits of the lake. You’ll find activities such as jet-skiing, pontoons, and even wakeboarding. A great way for locals and tourists alike to take in the sites.
Guatape Boat Party Experience
When Medellin first became popular with tourists, Guatape became an instant must-do. The 7,000-foot monolith that makes the town popular drew in visitors by the hundreds. The experience was simple, have a delicious breakfast on the road, climb the rock and tour the colorful town.
Today, we’ve created a more complete itinerary. We’ve added a party boat complete with state-of-the-art sound, alcohol, and jet skis.
We begin the day with an at-home chef if you’re at one of our vacation rentals. If not, there is a beautiful farm on the way to Guatape. This farm serves a wide array of local delicacies. From empanadas, arepas, and even homemade chorizo.
Depending on the size of your group the commute will be in a Mercedes sprinter or luxury SUV.
Once we reach the town of Guatape, the first activity is climbing the rock. 730 steps separate you from the summit where an unreal view of the lake awaits.
At the top, our groups take a minute to take in the views and relax while sipping back a cold brew.
Pontoons, Wakeboarding boats, and Jet-skis in Guatape
All our Guatape boat party experiences depend on the size of your group. For smaller groups, we recommend 10-person pontoons that focus on comfort and not so much speed. For bigger groups (10+ guests) we have a wakeboarding boat as well as a catamaran.
Besides pontoons and catamarans, adventure seekers are lured in by our Malibu wakeboarding boats. Not recommended while hungover but this boat will enhance any Guatape experience.
Medellin Crew’s Guatape boat party includes beers, water as well as snacks. We also have a captain and in some cases an onboard butler.
