If your goal is to live like a local, it doesn’t get any more local than this. Tejo is Colombia’s national sport. It’s the experience of chugging beer whilst tossing triangle-shaped packets filled with gunpowder.
It takes you back to playing cornhole, bags, or even horseshoes with your relatives at backyard BBQs. For those who didn’t experience such activity. It’s you getting drunk and making fun of your crew’s lousy hand-to-eye coordination.
If you want to experience the real Medellin, don’t underestimate the value of sipping back a cold Pilsen.
Boat Parties in Medellin
Guatape is a right of passage for any local looking to what to do. The town is home to the iconic monolith with 700 stairs built into it. Guatape also features a man-made lake with an amazing backstory. We’ll get into the history in a future post but this place is a fan favorite…

Paragliding in Medellin is a daytime excursion where you’re surrounded by people like yourself. Men and women looking to paraglide for the first time. Families with their pets on weekend picnics, and amateur photographers looking to get that epic shot.
Paragliding in Medellin may only be a 3-hour experience (from start to finish). But it’s another way to see how locals spend their weekends. Exercising, and family time, as well as poking fun at the American paragliding while hungover.
This tour is usually done in the morning (between 9-12 pm) and if your group is larger than 5. Don’t hold me to that 3-hour duration. So for best results, don’t go as hard the night before.
Medellin Nightlife

Women are spectacular, everywhere you go. But consider pub crawls, and club-hopping in places like Bolivar, Dulce Jesus Mio, and Fonda la Chismosa. These places are swarming with beautiful women, cheap alcohol, and guaranteed good time.
In fact, Dulce Jesus Mio might not have the music you’re used to back home. But its cartoon memorabilia decor and little people dressed up as priests will make for a few laughs.
Medellin nightlife depends on musical tastes and what the vibe is for the evening. If you want to party with the locals, not all Parque Lleras’ establishments are ideal.
Try places like Vinthrash in Provenza (4 floors of straight reggaeton and a wide variety of women). La Oculta (also in Provenza), and 2 of the aforementioned clubs (Dulce Jesus Mio and Fonda La Chismosa).
