Tip #1 – If it looks too good to be true, it probably is
If you’ve done any research at all, you’ve seen the wide array of options for Medellin rentals. From flats to penthouses, Medellin has it all, but how much of this is true? There are photographers that specialize in making properties stand out. With items such as lights and tools such as Photoshop, any place can look like an exotic villa.
Not to say there aren’t any VIP pads in Medellin, but it’s wise to go by other items besides looks.
We’ve had many cases where guests are excited about their bachelor party rental in Medellin. Only to find that when they arrive, nothing at the house works. Properties that promise the fastest internet available that haven’t paid their internet bill. Old towels, sheets, and even questionable hygiene.
Tip – Don’t go for the shiniest toy without checking its reviews.
Tip #2 – Location vs Views vs Others
Another one of our frequently asked questions is, where is the best place to stay in Medellin?
El Poblado is the main neighborhood home to the best properties, restaurants, bars, and clubs, so staying here is a no-brainer. But, even within El Poblado, there are hamlets or sections that have their pros and cons.
Parque Lleras & Surrounding Areas – Staying in Parque Lleras means you’ll be within walking distance of everything.
Your group can do their own thing without having to wait for everyone to be ready. The ideal location for groups that don’t want to plan anything and prefer to wing it. As far as the cons of staying in Parque Lleras. You might be shaken down by local authorities trying to make a quick buck, not good.
San Lucas – San Lucas is a neighborhood where you’ll be able to find luxury rentals. These rentals are great but there is one caveat, the neighborhood is residential. Perfect for those groups of guys that prefer having the party brought to them but there are only a few places that are party-friendly.
Las Palmas, Los Balsos – Properties overlooking the city tend to be mansions with little to no neighbors and very few restrictions. You might not be able to walk around because there’s nothing to see, but views like these make it worth it.
These places are for groups that will have their trip already planned. Groups that will adhere to an itinerary. Itineraries that involve sight-seeing during the day, pre-gaming and pool parties back home.
Tip #3 – Advice for those looking for the perfect Medellin Villas
As we mentioned, there are landlords out there that aren’t above offering the perfect rental on Airbnb and hitting you with the old bait and switch. They’ll double book and will find you another property last minute. Check this rental out for example. It’s a fake listing. Beware.
