If you’ve gotten this far, Colombia is on the shortlist for your next guys’ trip. You’ve heard of the legendary women, spectacular cities, and amazing activities. But what about nightlife in Colombia?
Medellin and Cartagena are Colombia’s bachelor party capitals. Top bachelor party destinations. But if picking only one city is all your budget allows, we want to provide you with pointers.
Medellin Nightlife
Medellin is Colombia’s most exciting party city and home to the world’s most amazing women. A bold claim but once you see it for yourself, you’ll likely thank us.
Known as “The City of Eternal Spring” due to its average temperature of 72 degrees (23 Celcius). The city isn’t as touristy as the second contender on this list but Lleras Park never disappoints.
It is the city’s main nightlife square and you’ll have to see it to believe it. Parque Lleras is green and colorful and the best restaurants, bars, and clubs are here. The music scene is reggaeton but after witnessing the talent at these places, it will grow on you.
The Best Nightclubs in Medellin –
- Envy Rooftop Bar (At the Charlee Hotel) – Wednesday through Saturday. They specialize in Salsa on Wednesdays and deep house from Thursday – to Saturday nights.
- Bolivar Nightclub (2 blocks away from Parque Lleras) – They specialize in Reggaeton. Best to visit Friday and Saturday nights.
- Salon Amador (2 blocks from the main square) – Thursday through Saturday nights. They tend to play deep house and usually have a well-known local DJ play.
All three of these places are more or less high-end establishments so there is a dress code. No hats, no shorts and wear at least a polo shirt. Bottle service is a must and bottles will cost anywhere from $80-$150 per bottle.
Very reasonable considering what you’d pay at a top New York, Miami, LA club. Getting a table is a matter of either having a plug or reserving a few days ahead of time. The cover fee at these places is in-expensive, expect to pay between $8-12USD per person. The only downside is, that Salon Amador and Bolivar are only open from Thursday – to Saturday.
Word of advice, if you find yourself with a group of 15+ guys, they might give you a hard time. Now, we recommended these places because they play the best music. But if you’re looking to hang out with a more local crowd, we have a solution.
Start the night out with a walk around Parque Lleras, a bar crawl at one of the many surrounding pubs. We usually recommend a pregame at your crib followed by walking around the blocks. You can’t say you enjoyed Medellin Nightlife without walking through Parque Lleras.
Travel tip from the editor – avoid flashy jewelry. The city is safe but you also don’t want to draw unnecessary attention to your crew.
To sum up Medellin Nightlife for stag parties, here you’ll find the best strip clubs in Medellin.
Cartagena Nightlife
Cartagena is Colombia’s most popular tourist destination for both domestic and international travel. It is home to a Unesco World Heritage site and the city center is a beauty to behold. We’re not going to dive deep into the best places to stay but the rule of thumb is to stay close to the city center.
When looking for the best restaurants, pubs, and clubs, the walled city is where you need to be. Here you’ll find long streets, chapels, and spectacular Spanish architecture dating back centuries.
The weather in Cartagena is a lot more predictable. Hot and humid with an average temperature of 90 degrees (33 Celcius). Bring fresh clothes like shorts and polo shirts for nightlife. Again, don’t expect to walk into nightclubs with flip-flops.
The Best Nightclubs in Cartagena –
- Alquímico (walled city, Calle del Colegio #34-24) – Owned by a Vietnamese American ex-pat, the club is open every day. There is no cover fee and the cocktails are out of this world. There are 3 floors and a rooftop bar usually open on the weekends. The music tends to be a mix of deep house and techno, which can’t miss.
- Café Del Mar – It is a rooftop bar located right on the edge of the walled city, right on the wall actually. There is no cover fee and it is a must-visit spot to watch the sunset. If you’re likely not back from your Cartagena island hopping tour, it’s a great place for dinner. There is a DJ playing salsa and house on the weekends as well as a live band. The cool ocean breeze and views of this city make it a great option.
- La Jugada Club House (Walled city, Carrera 6 #34-25) – La Jugada has 3 floors all playing different types of music. Reggaeton, house, EDM, salsa, etc. Their rooftop bar is awesome, expect to pay $10-$15 USD for a cover fee.
At Alquímico and Cafe del Mar, you can go for cocktails and no need for bottle service. But La Jugada being the more traditional club, at least a bottle is expected. The bottle can run you anywhere between $100-$250 for the premium booze. The best part is, they’re open every night.
Travel tip from the editor – Pickpockets aren’t common but the street vendors are pesky.
Which city is better for Nightlife in Colombia?
When it comes to nightlife in Colombia, Cartagena is the better option. Both are great bachelor party destinations but Cartagena has been doing nightlife for a lot longer. Did we mention they’re open every night?
Medellin has by far the better women and is less touristy. But Cartagena has more options, better clubs and you can’t beat having the ocean a stone’s throw away.
The nightlife in Colombia is cultural, it’s fresh, it’s exotic and best of all, it’s cheap. For the next few weeks, we’re going to be continuing to face these two cities head to head.
From nightlife to women and even bachelor party activities, there’s no denying Colombia’s allure. Now it’s a matter of narrowing down your location.
