Little do they know though that Medellin too has the option of similar activity. Medellin doesn’t have an ocean but we have a spectacular lake with epic views and weather. 

Before you press the back button and look for a bachelor party in Cartagena, hear me out for a second. 

Guatape is a small town located about 90 minutes away from Medellin. The town features a monolith (a big rock) with built-in stairs. Upon reaching the summit you get a fantastic view of a lake and what appears to be mini islands. These islands used to be the old town of Guatape that was flooded in the 70s to build a hydroelectric dam. 

I know what you’re thinking, why would I replace the ocean with a day trip to a rock? Again, hear me out. 

Guatape Excursion with Medellin Crew

The day starts out relatively early. We pick you up at around 9 am at your Airbnb or hotel. If you’ve chosen a vacation rental through us (best prices, guaranteed) we’ll provide your group with breakfast to ensure you guys get up on time. Pace yourself the night before because for those still inebriated or on the verge of passing out due to copious amounts of alcohol, we suggest you stay in. 

Our transportation (depending on the size of your group) is a 17-passenger Mercedes Sprinter stocked with Beers and snacks for the road. 

Once we pick you up, we take the drive over to Guatape. Depending on how early we start the day, our trip can be 90 minutes or 2 hours. This is an all-day ordeal so be sure to pack both shorts and a windbreaker. 

When you start to see cornfields, plantains, and a rock in the distance, you’ll know we’ve almost reached our destination. 

The first stop on this daytime voyage is the actual rock. At the rock, we take a 1-hour break where the crew will walk up the stairs and gaze at the view this manmade lake has for us.  Take lots of pictures as they will be worth their weight in gold for those married or in a relationship. 

Guatape Boat Party

Once we’ve done the rock activities, this is where we shine. 

We take the sprinter over to the actual, newly renovated town of Guatape (the old town is flooded). Here, after coffee and/or lunch, we take a quick tour of the colorful municipality. 

If the group is anxious to get in the water, we can skip the tour, but our intention is to provide you with a crash course in culture. 

Our host in Guatape will take you over to the dock where either a large pontoon or wakeboarding boat awaits us. 

The wakeboarding boat fits up to 10 people comfortably, while the pontoon can hold up to 25 people. Be sure to have your own playlist and connect your Bluetooth. Sadly we don’t stay up to date with hip-hop and or Hindi music (we’ve gotten these requests). 

In our last few trips, we’ve had jet skis on deck for those who want to do their own thing.

We’re not here to BS you and try to convince you that a Guatape boat party is in any way, shape, or form just as cool or better than a yacht party in Cartagena. It’s impossible.

A lake will never replace an island hopping experience the likes of which a Cartagena bachelor party has to offer. But I will say this, our Guatape Boat Party is an eclectic mix of culture, adventure, and booze. Something only found in a Medellin Bachelor Party.
