For those planning to lock in a trip to Medellin, the following information will be beneficial. Those who have already visited and enjoyed Medellin’s party scene, I bet you wished you knew the information before.
Medellin is South America’s hottest bachelor party destination for a reason. Its exotic feel, amazing weather, and spectacular women make this place a fan favorite. But what is it about Medellin’s party scene that’s so great?
As much as we can try to articulate the type of trip you’re going to have, it’s something that needs to be lived.
Medellin Bachelor Party Scene
It could be Parque Lleras bright lights, colorful streets, and lively clubs. Or it could be the eclectic mix of green and modern that fill the streets of Provenza. It could even be beautiful women left and right. Hell, most will say it’s all three, but Medellin’s party scene is spectacular.
Parque Lleras is Medellin’s #1 bachelor party neighborhood in large part due to the clubs and restaurants. I don’t like Parque Lleras as I prefer something a bit more upscale. Provenza would be my favorite street (only two blocks over from P. Lleras).
Provenza’s closed-off streets, modern bars, hip restaurants, and greenery, make it great for an evening stroll. Add sitting out in one of these bars for extensive people watching and you’ve got yourself a conundrum. Why the hell don’t you move here? As much as you’ll ask your VIP concierge how much real estate is, or how much does he pay in rent, pace yourself, champ. It’s only night 1.
Medellin’s Best Restaurants
Restaurants make up Medellin nightlife, so we’d like to highlight a few.
A few of these are within the vicinity of Parque Lleras & Provenza. While others, still within the El Poblado neighborhood, need a quick uber drive to get to.
We’re not going to go in-depth on which are the best restaurants in Medellin. We’ll have a separate article for that. But for now, here’s our top 5. In no particular order.
- Carmen – Contemporary cuisine. Visited by Tom Cruise, Anderson Cooper. Owned by US chefs Rob Pevitts and Carmen Angel.
- Oci – A local crowd’s favorite. Afghan, Vietnamese, contemporary using Colombian ingredients.
- Colossal – Not exactly my favorite restaurant when you compare it to the previous two. But the view, presentation, and crowd make it a must.
- El Cielo – Owned by Juan Manuel Barrientos, El Cielo is about as high-end as they come. Molecular cuisine with a Michelin star awarded chef for his restaurant in D.C.
- Hatoviejo – A lot of people will fight me on this but I had to include a restaurant specializing in local dishes.
Medellin’s Best Nightclubs
Again, we’ll get in-depth with this later but as of now, we’re going to highlight the city’s best clubs.
- Salon Amador – House and Electronic music’s home in Medellin. With popular local and internationally acclaimed DJs.
- Bolivar – A popular tourist and local spot for reggaeton both new and old.
- Perro Negro – If you can deal with crowds and enjoy old school reggaeton, this is the city’s best nightclub.
- La Chula – For tourists this place might be a bit of a culture shock. You’ll feel like you’re in Mexico and the mix of musical genres is different but I doubt you’ll find better women anywhere else.
- Gusto – Warning, don’t visit with your wife or girlfriend unless you expect a breakup. This place is a dope club but it’s swarming with “hostesses”. Big club, AC, VIP section. A traditional American club in the heart of Parque Lleras.
Dos and Don’ts of Medellin Bachelor Party Scene
I apologize for all the foreplay but I assumed you’d like to know how to plan your own Medellin nightlife itinerary.
Now for the dos and don’ts.
Do Bar Hop in Medellin
Day 1 is usually Thursdays and we recommend walking around Parque Lleras as well as Provenza. This will help you get a sense of where people seem to be going and which places to steer clear of.
Don’t Wear Flashy Jewelry
This should go without saying but keep your Rolex and AP’s at home, guys. We had a client shot a few months ago with a BB gun over a watch. Don’t be stupid.
Do keep an eye on your Drinks
There are women that lure single travelers and even small groups of guys to their tables. Here they slip a bit of scopolamine (a type of roofie) into their drinks and
before you know it, they wake up with their cards maxed out and passports missing.
Don’t Slam Car Doors
Taxis, Ubers, and everyone else get pissed off when tourists slam their small cars’ doors. I know it’s a habit because back in America where cars are bigger and doors are heavier if you don’t slam them, they won’t close. But this is the best advice we can give you.
Do Expect to Pay a Cover Fee
Every club of the ones we listed needs you to pay an entrance fee. You can argue you’re going to spend thousands of dollars but they’ll likely still squeeze those $5-10 out of your group for a cover fee.
Don’t Grab Girls off the street
This can also be construed as common sense but bachelor party groups can be like children. We had a group a few weeks ago who were shocked with what they saw lurking in the streets of Parque Lleras. Girls that seemed to be amazing and (to them) didn’t appear to be working.
They invited one to come and spend the night and they thought they had negotiated a price. The girls then asked if they could bring a few of their girlfriends over. These guys jumped at what seemed to be a can’t miss opportunity.
Little did they know, though, that they had to pay for their time regardless of what took place. To make a long story short, cops showed up. Don’t bring girls off the street.
