For many, Parque Lleras is where any Medellin trip begins and ends. It is the place used as a rule of thumb as far as distance (the closer to the park the better).
But what is it about this place that sees so many pedestrians on a daily basis? What can one newcomer expect?
Parque Lleras is one big square filled with bars, restaurants, coffee shops, boutique stores, and nightclubs. It is the place where people from all over the city come to party and dine. But, the square itself is a park, it is what’s within a 5 block radius that makes this area great.
Provenza, Parque Lleras
Provenza is a mere 3 streets over from the Parque Lleras square and it’s the city’s trendiest block. It is a place frequented by local hipsters, amazing women (upper echelon), and some of the better-looking tourists.
Provenza is one street filled with coffee shops, restaurants/bars and it is very green. It used to be a residential area but has now fallen victim to gentrification. Say what you want about this, but on this street, you would find empanadas and juice stands. But now you can find Vietnamese, Indian and Japanese restaurants. But contrary to popular belief, the street has kept its original allure.
During the day you can enjoy a delicious brunch at any of these restaurants.
But it is at night when this street comes alive. You have Burdo which is a chic restaurant playing deep house and old-school hip hop.
Bastardo is another great dining option filled with amazing-looking college girls.
El Social is a classic Medellin bar where everyone sits outside tossing back our local spirit, Aguardiente, and a cold brew.
Via Jardin, Parque Lleras
Via Jardin is a street over from Provenza and is reserved for the city’s true creme de la creme.
On this street, you’ll find restaurants such as Oci (one of Medellin’s top-rated restaurants). Botanico is another great dining option for local dishes using modern techniques. As well as Jurakub which is one of our favorite restaurants. Jurakub is a restaurant specializing in amazonian food and this place puts on a show. A must for any newcomer.
Parque Lleras and Alleyways
As mentioned before, Parque Lleras itself is a square. But, there are side streets that make up what we know as the park. On these streets, you’ll find restaurants and nightclubs. These nightclubs are packed with local women who are easily approachable.
If you’re here during the day, there’s not much to do aside from Coffee Shops (you have to try Pergamino) and local designer stores. Great place to buy high-end souvenirs for loved ones.
Once the sun sets, Envy Rooftop Bar at the Charlee Hotel is a must (dress code, no shorts, hats, or flip-flops). There is also Hooters and Patrick’s which are two bars that cater to Americans looking to catch sports.
Parque Lleras also has Gusto which is the city’s most popular hangout spot for tourists and local women looking to mingle. Last but not least, Parque Lleras is the best place to begin your night.
Pregame at many of these shot bars and watch the dozens of beautiful women walk by.
To sum up, Parque Lleras is a great place to start your trip. Our concern is, that many groups don’t go beyond this place and say they visited Medellin. Parque Lleras is a small sector of what Medellin is.
