Adventure seekers enjoy the thrill of getting lost in any city they visit. It’s exciting to find your way back home by reading a map while taking in the sites of an unknown location. Medellin is no exception.
Medellin is a city of beauty and given that it’s now on the map for travelers. It’s authentic Colombian culture at its finest. From the beautiful town of Guatape to its mayor peaks and even its surrounding towns. Medellin is best explored outside of your comfort zone.
What is the best way to see and enjoy Medellin during the day? We recommend sitting behind a scooter or motorcycle.
Medellin Scooter Rentals
Medellín Scooter rentals is a company that has been around for almost 10 years. It’s owned by an ex-pat from Louisiana that took a solo trip to Medellin and immediately became enamored with the city.
He bought a bike and decided to get lost every weekend on long drives with fellow ex-pats. He saw these experiences as an opportunity to help others see the best of Medellin.
The agency has 30 bikes and scooters all ranging in size and power to cover every skill bracket.
Medellin, as with most cities in South America has an aggressive driving culture. So we want to make sure you’re a skilled driver before we send you out on your own.
We send a lot of our crews out on Sundays to see the city on their own. But feel this excursion is more for that small group or single traveler that truly wants to explore. We also offer group rides where we visit towns 3 hours outside of Medellin and this is where you’ll see true beauty.
Dos and Don’ts
As once stated, we don’t rent to beginners as this is putting you and us at risk. We want you to have a good time and not worry about making sure you remember how to steer.
Even though the goal is to get lost and take in the sites, we’ll go over a map to make sure you avoid certain areas.
We recommend you start with a small or medium-sized bike before you go for one of the heavier ones.
Weekends are the best days and Sunday is the day we recommend you head out for your long ride.
Best places to visit in Medellin
Medellin is in the department or state of Antioquia that has 125 towns. All these towns have their allure but not all are worth visiting. Every town has a main square and a church in the middle of it.
Best Towns to Visit in Antioquia
Sabaneta
Sabaneta is only 15 minutes away from Medellin but this town is booming with culture. It is the place where many ‘Paisas’ visit for Sunday mass and family get-togethers. So on any given Sunday. You’ll see families leaving the church and eating lunch at one of the many bakeries or traditional restaurants. We recommend checking this town out because beginner riders want to see experience culture without the long drive. If you’re in Sabaneta for lunch, check out Donde Estela ( amazing Chicharron and Blood Sausage). Also, El Peregrino has the best Bunuelos (an amazing Colombian pastry filled with cheese).
Guatape
If you’ve been on our site before, you know we hype up Guatape. The town known for the monolith with the built-in 700 stairs, we recommend you check out on one of these bikes. We don’t recommend this trip for beginner riders as it is a 2-hour drive. But once you make it out there, it is something to behold. The town is colorful, the rock is jaw-dropping and the views are unreal.
Jardin
Last but not least is one of Colombia’s most beautiful and less-frequented towns. Jardin is located 3 hours away from Medellin and the town (Jardin means Garden) is faithful to its name. The square is filled with colorful flowers, friendly people, and great authentic eateries for you to explore. Not too many tourists visit as they don’t want to take the 3-hour drive. But if you’re on one of our bikes, we promise the journey to Jardin will have been just as rewarding as the town itself.
